Ephraim Kishon (August 23, 1924 - January 29, 2005) was born as Franz Hoffman and later known as Franz Kischont. He was a writer, satirist, playwright, screenwriter and film director. He was also a recipient of the Israel Prize in 2002 and the first Israeli director whose film was nominated for an Oscar, and also the first Israeli whose films won the Golden Globe award.
